Unquestionably, the name of Cowes is synonymous with yachting. At the height of the summer, one single event - Skandia Life Cowes Week - draws thousands of yachtsmen and women to take part in the largest regatta of its kind. The spectacle, social scene and atmosphere also draws countless visitors from all walks of life from around the world, simply because Cowes is unique.

Although the most memorable, Skandia Life Cowes Week is just one of over 150 events which take place in Cowes over twelve months of the year, each one bringing its own demands on the local infrastructure. Seamlessly, a six boat corporate training event is integrated into a 60 yacht rally or a national power-boat grand prix.

Between them Cowes Yacht Haven in the heart of Cowes together with East Cowes Marina on the River Medina can offer comprehensive berthing and support facilities to satisfy most needs.

Unlike most of the UK's 'cloned' High Streets, many of Cowes shops are privately run and cater for the discerning visitor looking for locally produced goods such as giftware, art and crafts, quality clothing and of course, chandlery. The pubs offer a traditional welcome and wholesome fare whilst many restaurants serve an international cuisine. Stocking the galley with fresh food from local butchers, delicatessens and grocers couldnÕt be easier.

The statutory harbour authority is Cowes Harbour Commission which has the jurisdiction of the waters extending from the Prince Consort Buoy in the Solent to the Folly Inn on the River Medina. The Harbour Commission operates a number of swinging moorings and detached pontoons which are ideal for small scale rallies.

Cowes Yacht Haven has the space and facilities, either with dressed-out marquees, the renowned boatshed or its own hospitality suite to provide the right ambience for silver service or buffet style receptions up to 1,500 people. High quality caterers are appointed according to numbers and requirements. In addition, Cowes Yacht Clubs and independent organisations welcome specific enquiries.
